Philosophy
Learn and Play Preschool offers unique programs situated in newly renovated schools located at 245 and 481 Main Street in Acton. Our goal is to provide a home-like environment which is especially important for those children encountering their first experience away from home. We offer small class sizes and ideal student to teacher ratios. This enables the teachers to have a powerful impact on each child's development by giving them the individual attention that is essential during their early years.

The teachers are experienced and knowledgeable about early childhood education. They work collaboratively with one another to support each other in providing an atmosphere that is safe and engaging for all children. They are selected because they represent the values and beliefs of Learn and Play Preschool. Each teacher believes in on-going and open communication with parents. This is provided through: 1) A monthly calendar and newsletter 2) Assessment and conferences twice a year and phone calls on an as needed basis 3) Daily highlights of the days events 4) Moments of conversation at drop-off and pick-up times.

The teachers provide a consistent schedule with a balance between teacher-directed and child-centered activities. By providing a setting which fosters self-esteem, builds confidence and is based on respect, it is our goal that the children will be empowered to take risks in their learning. Through guided discovery and hands-on learning, children will be involved in a fully integrated curriculum. The broad range of age appropriate activities will easily engage toddlers and preschoolers. Activities will be based on monthly academic units of study (i.e. Ocean Life). In addition for the preschool program, a weekly letter focus (i.e. the letter A), social skills themes (i.e. friendship) as well as literature theme days. The children will be introduced to multidisciplinary experiences including: children's literature, dramatic play, puppet shows, listening center, arts & crafts, science discovery & nature, cooking, sensory activities, social skills development, music & singing, fine & large motor activities, computer and early math skills. In addition, the curriculum will be enriched by field trips and special guests.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide every child with a quality early childhood experience. We strive to create a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment which fosters individual needs. Our staff views education as a partnership between parents and teachers. We believe it is essential to develop a good rapport with each child and parent based on open communication and mutual respect. We believe this is the foundation of a successful school experience. We believe in empowering children by offering them opportunities to make decisions and solve problems. It is our goal that children will possess confidence in their abilities and establish lasting relationships with teachers and peers. By offering an engaging curriculum it is our aspiration that each child will develop a positive outlook towards school, a better appreciation of the world around them and acquire a life long love for learning during their time spent at Learn and Play Preschool.
